adam
(current work in progress)
As a 'Magic', a sort of immortal supernatural being, Adam's memory goes back around about 65 million B.C., his first recollection being of his dearly beloved friend, Esmond, a fellow Magic and his longest known and closest companion.
Adam has pined desperately over the man for a very long time; the two have been desperately in love for longer than they can remember, and yet do not seem to be able to confess to one another. (This is not entirely true- Adam has, over the years, confessed a few times through love poems or desperate, yearning letters; he no longer drinks alcohol, and they both have an unspoken agreement to pretend those times didn't happen.) Still, for all the letters Adam did end up writing, there were hundreds and hundreds more that were never sent.
The conspicuous scar on Adam's face could easily be healed or hidden by Magic, but he chooses to keep it. He doesn't speak of it, but he doesn't want to lose the proof of his experience of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, back in 79 A.D.; fewer people still know that he lost his young adopted son Felix in the resulting destruction of Pompeii. Adam was never quite the same.
As of the mid seventies onwards, Adam (with Esmond) both mentor two teenagers, Kat and Zhara; the Magics' relationship with previous apprentice Kitchen remains rocky after her accident, but it smooths out over the following years. Still, the divide between Kitchen and Adam stings particularly because of his ingrained need to be a good father figure; the wounds of the past still sting. They heal together over time.
By the time the eighties roll around, Adam and Esmond have confessed and wed, become father figures to a host of traumatised youths, and experienced many a life altering experience even within the span of just a decade in their millions of years. They couldn't be any happier.
Though Adam doesn't hold Esmond's same political power, nor maintain his level of connections, he has made many good friends over the years that he can rely on in a pinch.
